Who am I? Well, to quote one of film history’s greatest heroes:
“I don’t know how to put this but I’m kind of a big deal. People know me.”
Hey everybody. My name is Kevin, and I’m currently a freshman in college in Washington DC.
I first fell in love with the art of film-making when I was just five years old, and watched Star Wars for the first time. Ever since that moment, I’ve wanted to be a movie director. In fact, I still do to this very date, and even have written a couple of (rather poor) screenplays. However, for practicality concerns I decided not to pursue a film major in college (still doing a film minor though!). Despite my dreams of pursuing a career in movie-making having not panned out, watching movies is still my number one hobby. Throughout each individual year, I try to watch as many new-release movies as possible, whether they be big-budget blockbusters, smaller independent movies, or acclaimed documentaries. And I of course watch each of the Best Picture nominees, mostly so I can just get angry at the Academy (in my book, they’re shooting 2/5 over the past five years).
I know more about the past four or so years of the film industry then I probably should, yet I will admit that I’m not as well-versed in older cinema as a self-proclaimed “movie nerd” should be. If you were to look at my list of top 100 personal favorite movies, there would A LOT from the 2000’s, a solid bit from the 90’s, a few from the 80’s, a slight resurgence in the 70’s with maybe ten or so, and then I think two from the 60’s. Nothing prior to that. I know, I know, how shameful. That’s part of the reason why I decided to start the AFI Challenge, so I could see many of the classic films from American history. For more information on the challenge, go check out its ABOUT page.
Besides movies, I also love watching TV, listening to music, and playing videogames. I would like to say I do a lot of reading, but I’m far too slow of a reader to catch up on any literature other than what I’m currently assigned for school. At least I actually read what’s assigned to me in school, unlike a solid 90% of my generation. Yay for diligence, I suppose. I also dabble in creating art (for the most part unsuccessfully). I’ve written a couple of screenplays in my free-time, and I’m apparently pretty good at rap free-styling. I’m way too white to ever do anything substantial with rap, but I enjoy doing it every once in a while haha.
Anyway, that’s me in a nutshell, and I hope you guys enjoy my movie reviews and any other content I post. See ya around.
